Build a size chart a screen reader can read
Paste your size chart from a spreadsheet. The builder returns an HTML table with a caption and header cells, ready to paste into a product description or a page in Shopify.
Copy the cells from Google Sheets, Excel or Numbers and paste them here. Comma-separated text and tables with | dividers work too. Nothing leaves your browser.
What the chart covers and its unit, like “Women’s tops, in inches”. Screen readers read it before the table.
Your table
Paste a size chart above, or try the sample, and the table appears here.
Why a table beats an image
A chart saved as an image is a picture of text. A screen reader can only read its alt text, which rarely holds thirty measurements, and the numbers blur when a shopper zooms in. WCAG 2.1 asks for real text wherever text can do the job (1.4.5, Images of Text).
In a table with header cells, a screen reader announces each number with its size and its measurement, so a shopper can move along a row the way everyone else reads it. The caption tells them which chart they are in before the first number.
Adding it in Shopify
For one product: open it in the Shopify admin, select Show HTML in the Description toolbar, paste the table where it belongs and save.
For a chart many products share: add a page under Online Store, Pages, paste the table in its HTML view and save. Then point a Pop-up or Collapsible row block on the product page at that page; Dawn and the themes built on it have both.
SiteRemora scans every product page in a real browser and writes alt text into Shopify for the images that need it; finding words baked into images is on its roadmap. More free checks are on the free tools page.
Attach a remora to your shop
Install from the App Store. The first scan is free, takes about a minute, and tells you exactly where you stand.
