No. We don’t add a button to your storefront, we don’t change anything visible to your visitors without your approval, and we don’t put a badge on your site. SiteRemora works inside your code — the way a developer would, if you had one with infinite patience.

Does this work on Shopify?

Shopify is our first platform. SiteRemora installs as an embedded Shopify app, reads your published theme and the apps that inject markup into it, and patches through your theme files and Shopify’s content APIs. There’s no script to paste and no code for you to write.

How do I set it up?

Install the app from Shopify, authorize it, and it scans your published theme automatically — no configuration required. From there you pick how much it does on its own (review each fix, auto-apply the safe ones, or full auto) and it keeps watching as your store changes.

Do I need a developer to use it?

No. The whole point is that it does the developer-level work for you. Fixes are written into your theme code, explained in plain language, and reversible in one click — you never have to open a Liquid file yourself.

How does SiteRemora actually work?

Three quiet loops: scan, patch, review. It scans your rendered storefront, locates the exact line of Liquid, CSS, or HTML responsible for each violation, and generates a targeted fix. You decide whether fixes apply automatically or wait for your approval.

How is this different from a scanner like Lighthouse or axe?

Good scanners exist. The unsolved problem is what happens after the scan — writing the alt text, adjusting the tokens, fixing the labels, and keeping it clean as the store changes. SiteRemora scans continuously and applies real code fixes, not just a report you have to figure out.

What does it scan, and how?

It renders your real storefront in a headless browser and runs industry-standard accessibility checks (the same axe-core engine trusted by professionals) plus its own DOM detectors — across your home page, product pages, collections, cart, search, and blog. Because it tests the rendered page, it sees exactly what a shopper’s screen reader would.

Does it keep working after the first scan?

Yes — that’s the core reason it exists. Accessibility breaks every time you update your theme, install an app, or edit a product. SiteRemora re-scans on a schedule (and on demand), so new violations get caught and fixed instead of quietly piling up until a demand letter arrives.

What is the Store Health score?

A single 0–100 score that summarizes your store’s accessibility at a glance, broken down into critical, warning, and info issues. It goes up as fixes ship and flags you when something new drags it down.

Accepted Answer

Every change is stored with its exact before and after, and any fix can be reverted in one click — no developer required, no time limit. A backup of the theme is taken before fixes are applied, and reverting restores the exact theme the fix targeted.

Can I control what gets applied automatically?

Yes. There are three modes. Manual: every fix waits for your approval. Smart Auto: low-risk fixes (like adding a lang attribute, a skip link, or landmark regions) apply on their own, and anything structural waits for you. Full Auto: everything applies automatically. You can change modes anytime, and every applied fix is still reversible.

Does it touch my checkout?

No. Checkout runs on Shopify’s hosted infrastructure and is Shopify’s responsibility. SiteRemora works on the parts you control — your theme templates and content across the rest of the customer journey, which is where the vast majority of violations (and lawsuits) actually live.

Are my original theme files safe?

Accepted Answer

Always. SiteRemora creates a versioned backup before it applies fixes, and the full history of every change is kept so you can review, compare, or roll back at any point. Nothing is overwritten without a trail back to the original.

What accessibility standards does SiteRemora cover?

We target WCAG 2.2 AA, the standard referenced by both the ADA in the United States and the European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549) in the EU. Our fixes cover the most common violations: missing alt text, contrast failures, unlabeled form fields, broken heading structure, missing landmarks, keyboard traps, and missing ARIA attributes.

How does the AI alt text work?

For each image missing a description, SiteRemora analyzes the actual photo and writes alt text that matches what a sighted shopper would see — “walnut leather sneaker, side view,” not “image.” When you change a product image, it re-checks and updates. AI alt-text generation is included on the Deep Sea plan.

Does it change my brand colors to fix contrast?

No — and this is deliberate. Picking an accessible color is a brand decision a machine shouldn’t make for you. SiteRemora flags every contrast failure with its exact ratio and the pixels responsible, then points you to the theme setting to adjust. It reports the problem; your palette stays your call.

What kinds of code issues does it fix directly?

Icon-only buttons and links that have no accessible name, form fields missing labels, skipped heading levels, missing landmark regions, absent skip-to-content links, a missing page language attribute, and ARIA names on custom controls — written straight into your Liquid templates.

Does it catch problems from my other apps?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Because it scans the fully rendered storefront, markup injected by other apps — review widgets, upsell popups, chat bubbles, email capture modals — is included in the audit. Those app-injected elements are one of the biggest sources of new violations, and they’re easy to miss with a code-only scan.

That’s a core reason this product exists. SiteRemora watches content as it ships — new products, new posts, new descriptions — and either fixes the small stuff automatically or surfaces it for review before it drags your score down.

Why do overlays not satisfy the ADA?

U.S. courts have repeatedly ruled that overlays don’t satisfy the ADA, and the FTC fined the largest overlay vendor for misleading compliance claims. In the first half of 2025, 22.6% of ADA lawsuits hit sites that already had a widget installed. Code-level remediation is what regulators and judges actually look for.

Is my store at risk for an accessibility lawsuit?

If you sell online in the US or EU, the short answer is yes. In 2025, over 5,100 ADA lawsuits were filed — roughly 70% targeted e-commerce. Most Shopify stores have detectable WCAG violations on every page, and 45% of lawsuits hit businesses that had already been sued once.

What is the European Accessibility Act, and does it apply to me?

The EAA took full effect on 28 June 2025. It applies to any business selling e-commerce services to consumers in the EU — regardless of where the business is based — and fines reach up to €900,000 in some member states. If you use Shopify Markets to sell into the EU, you’re likely in scope. SiteRemora targets EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.2 AA, the standard the EAA references.

Does SiteRemora replace my accessibility auditor?

For most stores under $50M — yes, that’s the point. For larger or regulated businesses, no: we’re the layer that keeps you clean between formal audits, and we hand your auditor a much shorter list to deal with.

Do I get evidence I can show a lawyer?

Yes. Every fix is recorded with its exact before and after and a timestamp — a versioned record of what was fixed, where, and when. If a demand letter arrives, that documented remediation history is exactly the kind of good-faith evidence a lawyer wants to see.

How does billing work?

Billing is handled entirely through Shopify — charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice, and plan changes take effect on your next billing cycle. There’s no separate account or card to manage.

Which plan includes AI alt-text generation?

AI alt-text generation is part of the Deep Sea plan. Every plan still detects missing alt text; Deep Sea is the one that writes the descriptions for you from the actual product images.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Accepted Answer

Anytime. Upgrades take effect right away; downgrades apply at the end of your current billing cycle, and you keep your current features until then. Switching to the free Shore plan cancels the paid subscription — your fix history stays intact.
