SiteRemora vs UserWay for Shopify (2026)

UserWay adds a widget that adjusts your pages in the visitor's browser, backed by Level Access's enterprise services. SiteRemora changes the theme and the catalog and keeps the record. For a Shopify store the question is whether you want the storefront adjusted or fixed.

What UserWay is

UserWay is an accessibility overlay: a script that adds a toolbar and rewrites parts of the page in the browser. Level Access, an enterprise accessibility consultancy, bought it for $98.7 million in March 2024, and the company also sells AI code-suggestion tooling for developers. Its Shopify App Store listing is rated 2.4 out of 5, with reviews saying the paid plan removed nothing from the audit list.

Among 2025 lawsuit defendants that ran a widget, EcomBack counted UserWay on 28% of them. The accessibility community's Overlay Fact Sheet, signed by more than a thousand practitioners including accessibility staff at Google, Apple, Microsoft and Shopify, opposes overlays as a category.

Where UserWay is the better choice

  • You are an enterprise that wants manual audits, training and consulting from Level Access alongside the widget.
  • You want the visitor toolbar specifically.

Where SiteRemora is the better choice

  • You want the theme and the catalog fixed, with a record of each change.
  • You maintain the store yourself or through an agency and want fixes that survive theme updates.
  • You want to see what is wrong before paying anything; the free plan shows every issue on your busiest pages.

If you are on UserWay today

Run a scan with the widget still installed; it does not change what the scanner sees in the theme. Fix the code, then remove the widget when the toolbar no longer earns its place.

Questions people ask

Does UserWay make a Shopify store ADA compliant?

No overlay can promise that, and the ones that did were fined for it. Sites running widgets were 22.6% of ADA website suits in the first half of 2025.

Is SiteRemora cheaper than UserWay?

The free plan shows every issue; paid plans start at $79 a month. UserWay's widget tiers vary and Level Access services are quoted separately.

Can I keep UserWay while I fix the code?

Yes. Nothing about SiteRemora depends on the widget being present or absent.
